From a young age I was constantly pushing my body as far as it could go. From 3 hours a day of exercise at school, my first marathon at 18 years old. I was then strengthening to become a ski instructor. On my return I decided to compete in a body-building bikini competition, pushing my mental and physical limits with this extreme diet culture. I see a pattern developing as I went on complete Marathon des sables, ‘the toughest footrace on earth’ alongside my father.
The theme is extremes and through each experience, I learnt what my body and mind were capable of, the benefits of certain training and the downfalls of these extremes on health. There was always a huge event or focus with my diet and training from the ages of 15 to the age of 22. Which is ironic because it was around this time I became a Personal trainer.
I realised that health and optimal happiness were not found in these extremes. But in caring for our bodies and minds so we can enjoy any activity with ease, feel present and energised every day in our life. To enjoy the training as a small part of peace where this fast world slows down for 30 minutes, distractions are minimised and all focus can be on you. The women I was training were stressed out with life, putting everyone before themselves and close to burn out. It was causing friction and stress within the households and illness. If you are empty, how can you give to others?
When I first went online I saw everyone smashing these HIIT workouts. A way to find control or punish or just miseducate. Don’t get me wrong these can really work for some body types and are more suited to the Male hormone system. However, I saw everyone was super stressed with work, with the world, with life. These workouts were adding to the stress, physical emotional and performance stress are all treated the same way by our body.
I decided to focus these sessions on:
Strengthening is super important for females to maintain some muscle mass for bone health as well as our metabolic rate. A sense of internal strength and achievement.
Mindful breathing, stretching and releasing. To quiet the mind, release any stress you're holding onto and your moment of calm, for you.
Balance & Posture. I want everyone who joins my programme to grow old like fine wine, supple and with amazing balance and posture. It also helps with performance in every area as well as confidence.
My mission is to make a wonderful community of inspiring people who want to elevate their minds and bodies, change the way they look upon training and add small changes to make them feel present, connected and confident.
Look forward to sharing this magic with you and sending lots of love,
Sally
